Somewhere to sit ...

First toilet in! As is the shower base and the tiling's been started too.
The floor of the smallest ensuite (in what will be a wet room) is progressing. I know it looks tiny, but we have measured very carefully and can fit in a corner toilet, small basin and shower head. It will be beautifully compact.
And the third bathroom is ready for the tiling, toilet and shower base too. The tiles were ordered today - not going for standard white in this room - instead a sort-of industrial grey as the shower base is a dark grey.

Flooring almost done

The old kitchen room now has a new floor in what will be the ensuite bathroom. We have been able to use left-over tiles from the gite renovation. Original old tiles have also been put in the main part of the bedroom, over a large hole in the floor. This was where the original cooking range was plus a shute going from the grenier through the kitchen down to the manger in the cave. Hay was sent via this to feed the animals below.

Building walls

The insulation and sound-proofing for the new walls is now mostly done. Not all the walls are being done, just the shared walls and those which are particularly crooked! The green plasterboard is where the bathroom will be. Next will be the ceilings.

A nice find.

When removing some cupboards in the original kitchen we found this old bread knife. The handle has been worn down by much use. Amazingly, the blade is still sharp and does the job intended for it.

Dust and rubble ...

Work is progressing on the soon-to-be chambre d'hôte part of the house. The framing for the new walls and false ceilings is going up and this week should see the walls completed. All the electrics and plumbing is in the cave and brought up to the rooms:

there are still quite a few holes in the floor:
and a start has been made on the doors and shutters:
and there is a LOT of dust everywhere.

Office space

Well, it's been quite a while since I've posted here. It's not that we haven't done any more work though! After finishing the kitchen - which still is a joy and works incredibly well - we converted the old kitchen into an office. It's a great space and finally we have all our work 'bits' in one place.

Other work has included painting and creating a cleaning cupboard by the second toilet. We've also combined (what ended up being three storerooms) into one room with new electrics so we actually see what is in there. This is all in preparation for converting the final four rooms into a chambre d'hôte - three ensuite bedrooms and a guest breakfast/lounge room. More on that to come ...
